MODIS based Ecosystem Monitoring in HKH Region

MODIS having the high temporal resolution covering entire Hindu-Kush Himalayan (HKH) region can be used for many science applications such as satellite base near real time monitoring of fire disaster, ecological change, long term snow monitoring and understand climate patterns, which can be beneficial to wide range of users from the decision makers to the ground level users. ICIMOD, under SERVIR-Himalaya initiative, has developed MODIS EVI/NDVI based Ecosystem Monitoring in HKH region which will have wider applications such as agriculture crop monitoring, rangeland management, and so on.

Phenology (annual peak) from 2001 to 2013 for entire HKH region

A number of regional MODIS NDVI based products have been developed for 2001 to 2013 period as part of the Ecosystem Monitoring. The data products covering entire HKH region include vigour (seasonal/annual mean and anomaly) and phenology (number of growing peaks, and length of growing seasons).

Analytical Tools

The application allows interactive visualization of vigour and phenology data layers of HKH region. One can view annual or quarterly data of mean/anomaly vigour, length of growing season, or annual number of growing peaks. A time slider tool is provided to allow users to view the data for different years between 2001 and 2013.
