Facilities


MENRIS workstation is equipped with the state-of-the-art computing facilities for GIS related activities. The facilities include nine  workstations specifically designed for carrying out spatial analysis and image processing, five high-end servers,  large format  plotters, A3 size color and black & white laserjet printers, A3 size scanner for scanning aerial photographs and a couple of digitisers. The computers are installed with the latest versions of Remote Sensing and GIS software like ArcGIS 9.3, Erdas Imagine version 9.3, Definiens, ILWIS, and IDRISI. Apart from this, MENRIS also has five licenses for Google Earth Pro. In addition to these, MENRIS is also equipped with latest differential and handheld GPS equipments for field verifications.

MENRIS also has access to central backup system with a capacity of 14 Terabytes to backup all the GIS related data. The backup system is based on DELL PowerVault 745N server with Windows 2003 storage server operating system.

MENRIS also manages Atmospheric Brown Cloud (ABC) Nepal Climate Observatory which carries a lot of environmental monitoring equipments ranging from solar radiation to dry and wet deposition air chemistry. Software like WIN 2AP are used for Sun Axis positioning and tracking, LibView 6 for dry and wet deposition air chemistry, and Boxcar Pro 4.3 for rain gauge measurements.
