Data Services
ICIMOD is currently moving towards Enterprise GIS that facilitates the central storage
of all the geospatial data in relational database management system (RDBMS) allowing
concurrent access of these data to multiple users within and outside ICIMOD. The
ESRI’s ArcGIS Server that includes ArcSDE along with Microsoft’s SQL Server have
been used to implement ICIMOD’s Enterprise GIS.
In the recent past, as a prototype application, spatial databases have been created
for following three protected areas under the Hindu Kush-Karakoram-Himalaya (HKKH)
Partnership Project:
- Sagarmatha National Park (SNP) in Nepal,
- Central Karakoram National Park (CKNP) in Pakistan and
- Qomolangma National Nature Preserve (QNNP) in Tibet Autonomous Region of China.
The data services were created for each of these databases so as to allow project’s
partner institutes to access the spatial data of these protected areas directly
through Internet using ArcGIS software (ArcCatalog, ArcMap), a freeware ArcGIS Explorer,
Manifold or any other GIS software that has the capability to connect to ESRI’s
ArcSDE database.

If you like to access these data in your machine, please contact
infomenris@icimod.org for connection details.
