Paper publication on "The state and fate of Himalayan glaciers" in Science Magazine

The paper ‘The state and fate of Himalayan glaciers’ was published in Science Magazine on 20th April, 2012. The lead author was Tobias Bolch from Zurich University (Switzerland) with the co-authors of G. Cogley (Canada), A. Kulkarni (India), K. Fujita (Japan), S. Bajracharya (ICIMOD, Nepal), A. Kääb (Norway), C. Huggel, F. Paul, H. Frey, M. Scheel and M. Stoffel (Switzerland) and J. S. Kargel (USA). The paper highlighted the major findings of the ICIMOD's report "The status of glaciers in the HKH region". The paper also highlighted the needs of up-to-date glacier inventory, field and remote sensing methods to estimate the glacier change including length, area and volume change. The paper also highlighted the importance of future glacier evolution, GLOFs and glacier runoff modeling with extended and coordinated trans-boundary research on cryosphere, climate and their impacts.
